Sunderland pick up priceless win

Sunderland pick up priceless win

22 October 2011 - 17:02

Stephane Sessegnon and Nicklas Bendtner scored in the final twelve minutes of the match to give Sunderland a much needed win against Bolton Wanderers.

  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Palmer starts
  • Chelsea ready to sell four home-grown players

  • The encounter was far from entertaining, with both teams playing scrappy football. Despite having a large share of possession and creating many chances, Sunderland looked set on taking only one point at the Reebok Stadium.

However, goals in the 82nd and 93rd minutes from Stephane Sessegnon and Nicklas Bendtner eased the pressure on manager Steve Bruce.

Sunderland came into the fixture having obtained a mere six points from their opening eight matches. Bolton too were performing poorly, with them languishing in the relegation zone.

The first half was a dull affair, with each team struggling to make the breakthrough. This continued into the second half, with Sunderland unable to unlock the Bolton defence, while the home side struggled to create chances up front.

However, Sunderland always looked more likely to score and finally broke the deadlock in the 82nd minute when Sessegnon headed home a Seb Larsson corner.

Although Bolton tried searching for the equalizer, it was Nicklas Bendtner who was played in by Sessegnon who sealed the victory for Steve Bruce's side in the 93rd minute.
