Newcastle are planning a move for Birmingham City defender Liam Ridgewell. The centre back almost completed a move to St. James' Park during the summer, but a fee could not be agreed between the two clubs.
Newcastle's manager Alan Pardew will now test Birmingham City's resolve with a renewed offer come January, that offer will be in the region of 2.5m GBP.
West Brom are also chasing Ridgwell's coveted signature, but will not match the valuation of his current club.
Expect a transfer tussle for his singature once the market reopens. If Birmingham resist, and if City are not promoted to the Premier League next summer, Ridgwell is almost certainly expected to quit the club at the end of the season.
