Sol Campbell slams Sepp Blatter

Sol Campbell slams Sepp Blatter

19 November 2011 - 06:40

Former Arsenal, Newcastle and Tottenham defender Sol Campbell has slammed Sepp Blatter for his comments on racism. The FIFA president suggested that racism can be resolved simply with a handshake.

 • Fabrizio Romano updates on Nicolas Jackson's future at Chelsea
 • Arsenal suffer big injury blow ahead of Fulham game
 • But, Sol Campbell thinks Blatter's comments will be hard to forgive, as football fights a long term battle with racism.
"For me, it doesn't wash," he said. "For the head of Fifa to come out with something like that is shocking. I'm astonished he's still in a job. I think he should do the honourable thing and step down.
"When racist comments come from another player, it's even more hurtful. It's sickening, it's disgusting. People saying it's ok [if they shake hands later], it's unbelievable.
"He's the head. He should know better. He's compromised Fifa big time. The longer he stays, Fifa will become weaker."
