Fellaini explains new Everton deal

Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini has explained the reasons why he has penned a new contract at Goodison Park. The Belgium international last week put pen to paper on a five year contract. There has been suggestions that Fellaini had been looking for a more ambitious club, but Fellaini explained that Everton themselves are focusing on rebuilding for the future.

Fellaini signed a deal worth a reported 85,000 GBP per week on Wednesday evening, just as Everton fans were preparing a weekend protest at owner Bill Kenwright's lack of ambition at the Toffees.<br />

But Fellaini thinks the club are ambitious, and the decision to sign a new contract was an easy one to make.<br />

&ldquo;I&rsquo;m happy to sign because I have played at Everton for three-and-a-half years,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;I&rsquo;m happy with my colleagues and I have a good feeling with the manager, the staff and with the direction of the chairman.<br />

&ldquo;Everton have given me a new contract because they have good ambition and they want to sign two or three players for the team.<br />

&ldquo;It&rsquo;s important for the team because when I started the season the supporters weren&rsquo;t happy because we didn&rsquo;t sign any new players but I think with time and Everton buying new players we will be a good team of the future.&rdquo;
