Sunderland sack Steve Bruce

01 December 2011 - 05:54

After months of speculation, Sunderland have parted company with Steve Bruce. The sacking comes after a worrying start to the season with just 2 wins in 13 games. Sunderland have installed assistant Eric Black as interim manager.

  • Enzo Fernandez wants to leave Chelsea
  • Man Utd set to hold contract talks with experienced star
  • The early favorite to replace Steve Bruce is Martin O'Neill, and chairman Ellis Short begins his search for a successor today.<br />

"It is my job to act in the best interests of our football club and I can assure everyone that this is not a decision that I have taken lightly," chairman Ellis Short said.<br />

"Sadly results this season have simply not been good enough and I feel the time is right to make a change.<br />

"I would like to personally place on record my thanks to him for his significant contribution to our football club over the past two and a half years and everyone here at Sunderland naturally wishes him the very best for the future."<br />

Other names linked with the vacated role include surprise candidate Guus Hiddink whilst Frank Rijkaard has also been linked with a move to the Premier League.
