Villa condemn Bolton to bottom of the table

Villa condemn Bolton to bottom of the table

11 December 2011 - 04:00

Goals from Marc Albrighton and Stilian Petrov earned Aston Villa a hard fought three points against Bolton on Saturday afternoon, as the Villains condemned Bolton to defeat and bottom of the Premier League table.

  • Chelsea suffer double injury blow ahead of Villa trip
  • Gabriel Magalhaes to sign new Arsenal deal

  • Alex McLeish has been criticised by some sections of Aston Villa supporters in recent weeks for a perceived negative style of play; but McLeish today fielded both Charles N'Zogbia and Marc Albrighton in a new look attacking style.

Petrov had a wonderful chance early on to break the deadlock, but Bolton keeper Jussi Jaaskelainen kept the Bulgarian at bay.

It would be Marc Albrighton, who scored his eighth goal for the club, to finally break the deadlock. The right winger found some space in the box to fire home from a Gabby Agbonlahor cross in the 33rd minute.

Villa then doubled their lead through Stilian Petrov just 7 minutes later. The Bulgarian took a shot from distance and the ball bounced off of Gary Cahill past Jaaskelainen to double the lead.

After half time, Ivan Klasnic would pull back a consolation goal from a Zat Knight assist, but it would not be enough and Owen Coyle continues to struggle through a very worrying start to the season.
