Steven Gerrard signs Liverpool deal

13 January 2012 - 06:12

Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard has signed a new contract that is likely to keep the player at Anfield for life. The 31-year-old yesterday put pen to paper on a deal until 2014.

  • Chelsea expected to sell striker after loan deal
  • Fabrizio Romano reveals two striker targets for Arsenal

  • The deal includes a unique clause that allows Gerrard to move into a club ambassadorial role once his playing career ends. The England international admitted that he was delighted to agree a new deal: “It’s a very proud day for both myself and my family.

“It comes on the back of a fantastic team performance when we got the result we were looking for [after beating Man City in the Carling Cup this week].

"Hopefully we can finish the job off in two weeks’ time and take all of our magnificent fans down to Wembley for a day out."

Director of Football, Damien Comolli, said of Gerrard's deal: "Everybody says he's the best player this country has had for the last twenty years. I think that's quite unanimous. I've seen something in the press recently in France where they voted for the top five English players over the last twenty years and they came out with Stevie on top."
