Chelsea signing Cahill hurt by money talk

Chelsea signing Cahill hurt by money talk

21 January 2012 - 09:03

Chelsea defender Gary Cahill has hit out at the media after seeing news stories suggesting that the player and his new club nearly didn't complete a move because of disagreements over his salary.

  • Mikel Arteta insists 27yo star won't be leaving Arsenal
  • Omari Hutchinson wants to continue at Ipswich Town

  • The former Bolton man's move to Stamford Bridge reportedly hit a snag due to Cahill's excessive wage demands, but the defender denies that those stories were true.

“If it was about wages I would have waited until the end of the season, and everyone would have known,” Cahill said.

“From when I was 16 I don’t think I have ever gone into a contract and sorted it out on the first day. There’s always been a bit of ‘meet halfway’ and that’s the way it goes.

“It’s been no different from any other contract. So, for me, just sitting back and seeing it all in the papers, was a little bit upsetting.”
