Chelsea track another Belgian kid: Lukas van Eenoo

29 January 2012 - 08:53

Chelsea's on/off pursuit of Racing Genk midfielder Kevin de Bruyne could finally come to a conclusion this week, with the Blues reportedly having agreed a fee with his club and soon, the player. However, eyefootball.com understands that Chelsea are also tracking another Belgian whizzkid; this time Cercle Brugge's midfield gem, Lukas Van Eenoo.

  • The 20 year old defensive midfielder has attracted interest from many sides outside of Belgium, for example, Juventus and Atletico Madrid scouts have both been to watch the player in action in recent months. News that Premier League side Chelsea have also been alerted to Van Eenoo will not surprise many, then, as the £3.5 million rated midfielder has been a consistent performer for his club since bursting onto the scene in 2008.

Van Eenoo has spent his entire footballing career with Cercle; since he was just six years old in 1997, and he has now worked his way up into first team contention regular basis. This season the defensive midfielder has already scored two goals for his club in the Jupiler League.

Van Eenoo's contract with Cercle will expire in 2015; and so his acquisition will definitely not come cheap.

Van Eenoo is another example of one of the streams of talented young players coming out of Belgium at the moment. Van Eenoo is currently playing for Belgium's under-21 side and is expected to enjoy some international recognition in the next year or so when he earns his first cap for his country.
