Inter Milan striker Wesley Sneijder today admitted that last summer the Nerazzurri tried to sell him. Manchester United have long been linked with a move for the Dutchman, but it appears a deal was closer than initially thought.
United were forced to cancel a move for Sneijder due to the player's huge salary demands, believed to be in the region of 180,000 GBP per week. Subsequently, Sneijder stayed at the San Siro and a move away scuppered.
Sneijder confirmed that Inter tried to cash in on him last year: "Last summer, Inter wanted to sell one of myself or Eto’o, to respect the financial fair play rules.
"My contract with Inter expires in 2015, so there’s still a lot of time."
