Arsenal club chairman Peter Hill-Wood has requested that manager Arsene Wenger commit his long term future to the club and sign an extension to his current contract. Wenger's current deal will keep him at the Emirates until 2014.
Arsene Wenger has overcome fierce criticism of his methods this year, to guide the Gunners into 3rd spot and Champions League qualification could soon be achieved.
However, a section of Arsenal's club support have grown frustrated with Arsene and Peter Hill-Wood wants Wenger to prove those supporters wrong and extend his current deal.
"For him to stay longer than his current deal would be perfect. I can't think of anybody better to run the team," Hill-Wood said.
"He has shown how much rubbish people were talking earlier this season. We had a terrible run of injuries and that obviously had an effect.
"But a few mindless people were saying that he had to go, that Arsene was past his sell-by date. He has shown that is nonsense.
"I would want him to stay as long as he is happy here. He has been with us 14 years and has done a magnificent job. I want him to stay for the long-term and I see no reason at all why he should want to go."
