German sides Hannover and Hamburg are interested in a permanent transfer for Swiss international defender Johan Djourou. The player, currently under contract with Arsenal, spent last year on loan at Hannover.

  • Chelsea join Liverpool & Man Utd in race to sign 26yo
  • Barcelona identify Arsenal midfielder as key transfer target

  • The German side were sufficiently impressed with his performances and now are ready to make a permanent move for the player.

The Swiss international has so far struggled to attract any interest from some of Europe's biggest clubs after a mixed time at the Gunners.

Reports of a permanent deal were also confirmed by Hamburg.

"I know Johan very well from my time in Switzerland [with Basel]," said Oliver Kreuzer, Hamburg's sporting director. "He's a very interesting player and someone you have to look at if he comes on the market. He'd be a great solution for us in defence. We're interested in a loan, but also in buying him."

Meanwhile, Hannover are also locked in talks with Arsene Wenger's side in the hope that they can secure a second loan for the player.
