Tottenham Making Move For David Villa

28 June 2013 - 16:34

Tottenham are reportedly closing in on the Barcelona and Spain striker David Villa. It has been suggested by Goal that the star striker has confirmed his willingness to move to the White Hart Lane.

  • Arsenal handed injury boost on defender ahead of Bournemouth clash
  • Chelsea planning shock move for Man City winger?

  • Villa has reached a broad agreement on personal terms with the Spurs as has been reported by Goal. The 31-year-old is keen to play in the Premier League and Tottenham may be the club, should the deal be finalised.

Tottenham’s manager Andre Villas-Boas has spoken to Villa on phone and the club’s new technical director, Franco Baldini, has held talks with his agent. The club are confident of landing the Spanish international despite Fiorentina’s reported interest.

The Spurs hope to convince the La Liga champions to bring down the asking price for David Villa. They are prepared to pay around £8m for him, as he has only a year left on his contract with Barcelona.

Villa, whose first-team chances seem bleak now with the entry of Brazilian ace Neymar to the Nou Camp, attracted the interests of clubs like Arsenal and the Spurs in January but the Catalans refused to sell the striker mid-way through the season. Now that he has been declared available for sale, Arsenal have stepped down their interest in him, leaving the Spurs to do the bidding.

Villa could be paid in excess of £100k-per-week at the White Hart Lane but not equal to his present weekly pay of £140k.
