Barcelona Confirm David Villa Atletico Switch

08 July 2013 - 18:45

Barcelona have confirmed the deal with Atletico Madrid which will see the Camp Nou part ways with the star Spanish striker David Villa. Villa will join Atletico this summer in a deal which is understood to be in the range of £4.39m.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Former Chelsea boss to replace Erik ten Hag at Man Utd?

  • Atletico were one of the many seekers of the 31-year-old striker with Tottenham and Arsenal being the other big names in the race. The striker has decided against leaving Spain as Barcelona have announced their agreement with Atletico, according to which David Villa will move to Vicente Calderon, subject to agreement of personal terms and a medical.

"FC Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have reached an agreement in principle for the transfer of the player David Villa to the Madrid club"

"The operation will cost a maximum of 5.1 million euros, made up of 2.1 million euros this season, two million more if the player remains at Atletico in 2014/15 and another million if he extends his contract until 2015/16.”

The Camp Nou will also retain a 50 percent from any future transfer involving the former Valencia man.

Atletico were keen on filling the void created by Radamel Falcao’s departure and David Villa’s acquisition is an attempt to do that.

Villa signed for Barca in a 40million euro deal from Valencia in 2010 and has scored 48 goals for the La Liga champions in 119 games.
