Vlad Chiriches a surprise target for Tottenham

30 July 2013 - 07:29

Tottenham's technical director Franco Baldini will make an approach for Romanian centre back Vlad Chiriches. The defender, who has played for Romania over 18 times, is one of the most highly rated prospects in his homeland.

  • Omari Hutchinson wants to continue at Ipswich Town

  • The 23-year-old has spent the majority of his career paying in his home country, except for a short spell playing for Benfica as a teenager back in 2008. A phenomenal season last year for Steaua Bucharest attracted the interest of many of Europe's top sides, with Italian sides Genoa and Roma both sending scouts to watch Chiriches in action.

However, it is understood that Tottenham are now in pole position to sign the Romanian. Franco Baldini likes the look of the defender and will discuss a transfer for the defender, believed to be for a fee in the region of 3 million Euros.

Spurs currently have Younes Kaboul, Jan Vertonghen and Michale Dawson at their disposal in central defence and Andre Villas-Boas is hoping to sign at least one more centre back as backup.
