Strootman reveals United were never serious contenders

07 August 2013 - 13:19

Former PSV Eindhoven midfielder Kevin Strootman has revealed that Manchester United did not make a serious offer and is happy to have joined Serie A side AS Roma.

  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Palmer starts
  • Chelsea ready to sell four home-grown players

  • The 23 year old was the subject of intense interest from English champions Manchester United and Serie A giants AC Milan, but eventually agreed for a move to the Italian capital.

Both United and Milan were interested in his signature but never tabled any serious bids for the young Dutch midfielder.

He told La Gazzetta dello Sport: "Did Manchester United and AC Milan want me? Only Roma came forward seriously for me and I liked their project.

"Rudi Garcia called me and convinced me to make the move, and I'm happy to be here.

"There are so many good players here, as well as the new ones like Maicon, (Mehdi) Benatia and Gervinho.

"I want to prove that I am worth all the money (£15.6m) that Roma spent on me, and then I want to win something."
