Wigan chairman confirms Mclean deal

<strong>Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan has confirmed that a fee has been agreed with Sunderland over the transfer of midfielder James Mclean.</strong>

  • Whelan revealed that they are currently discussing personal terms with the 24 year old Republic of Ireland international.<br />

    "We have got to have discussions with his agent but we have agreed a fee with Sunderland and the lad is here talking to us now," Whelan told Sky Sports News.<br />

    Wigan, who won the FA Cup last season despite going down to the Championship, have appointed Owen Coyle as their new manager after Roberto Martinez left for Everton. <br />

    Coyle has been busy this summer as he aims bring the Latics back to the top flight in their first attempt itself.<br />

    The left footed winger has been receiving a lot of stick from the Sunderland fans ever since he chose not to wear a jersey with remembrance poppy in a match against Everton.<br />

    New manager Paolo Di Caio apparently thinks Mclean is surplus to requirements at the club and has asked the player to look for a new club this summer.
