Newcastle to make bid for Marvin Martin?

09 August 2013 - 13:57

Newcastle United are believed to have made an enquiry for Lille's midfielder Marvin Martin. The 25-year-old French international is being monitored by the Toon Army and many are speculating that the signing of Martin could point to an imminent departure for current central midfielder Yohan Cabaye.

  • Mauricio Pochettino confirms fresh injury blow for Chelsea star
  • Arsenal want to make four marquee signings this summer

  • Martin arrived at Lille in 2012 from Sochaux and has played on a regular basis for the former Ligue 1 champions. Lille are planning to keep Marvin Martin at the club but a big money offer for the player could change that situation very quickly.

The 25-year-old still has a further three years on his current contract at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy which could mean Lille would demand as much as 12 million Euros for the central midfielder.

Big spending French sides Monaco and Paris St Germain have also been in contact with Lille but it is understood both teams are happy with their current midfield options.

Newcastle is known to appeal to Martin as the club has a growing contingent of French speaking players.
