Cardiff boss admits giving up on Capoue chase

Cardiff boss admits giving up on Capoue chase

09 August 2013 - 16:45

Cardiff City boss Malky Mackay has accepted defeat in his chase to sign French midfielder Etienne Capoue but remains optimistic about new signings this season.

  • Arsenal to swap Gabriel Jesus for Inter Milan star?
  • Arsenal leading race to sign Belgian midfielder

  • The Premier League new boys have been quiet in the transfer window as of now and the only notable additions to the squad has been Kobenhaven striker Andreas Cornelius and Tottenham center half Steven Caulker.

Mackay have been pushing for Capoue's signature for weeks now but the 25 year old Toulouse midfielder has seemingly decided to join Tottenham Hotspurs ahead of Cardiff.

Mackay said: "We had a bid accepted but it looks as if he has decided, as far as I am aware, to go to Tottenham.

"It looks like it will go that way."

Mackay has already broken the club's transfer record twice this season and insists that he will bring in a few more faces before the window close at the end of this month.

"Sometimes things happen quickly, like the Steven Caulker deal, other times it can be more protracted.

"We have some plates spinning at the moment, if it will take until September 2, then that is what it will take."
