Grant Holt insists Wayne Rooney should be allowed to leave Man Utd

11 August 2013 - 10:16

The newly signed Wigan striker Grant Holt has suggested that Manchester United should allow Wayne Rooney to leave Old Trafford.

  • Chelsea midfielder looking forward to London derby vs Spurs
  • Arsenal in the front row to sign Dutch striker

  • The former Norwich City man is set to line up against the Premier League champions in the FA Community Shield today.

Holt suggested that it could be best if an agreement is made which would suit all parties.

He told the Daily Star: "I know what Wayne is going through and I have sympathy for him.

"If he wants to go, he should be allowed to leave, as long as the money is right for all parties. I know he signed a contract and was happy to do so at the time, but he is obviously not happy.

"There is a lot of talk from fans about players' loyalty to their clubs, but what about clubs' loyalty to their players. You have to look at both sides and I'm sure, if United sell him, they will get a substantial figure."
