QPR hopeful to tie up a deal for Baird

18 August 2013 - 14:42

Championship side Queens Park Rangers' boss Harry Redknapp is believed to be close to sealing a deal for free agent Chris Baird.

  • Chelsea set to sign midfielder after Danny Welbeck
  • Chelsea confirm striker transfer on two-year deal
  • The 31 year old versatile defender has been released by Fulham after the previous season drew to a close and Redknapp is looking to tie up a deal with the Northern Ireland international.

However, the Rangers' boss has to move quickly to secure his signature as other Premier League clubs are also believed to be monitoring his situation.

QPR assistant manager Kevin Bond has insisted on the club's need to bring in reinforcements to gain promotion back to the top flight in the first attempt.

Redknapp said in the Fulham Chronicle: "I like Chris Baird.

"He knows what he's doing and he's a good player. I'd like to do something with him."
