West Ham must sell before they can buy new players

20 August 2013 - 00:41

West Ham's owner David Gold has told reporters that the club must sell before they can buy new players. The Hammers are currently short of strikers, with only Modibo Maiga as the recognised forward.

  • Arsenal to swap Gabriel Jesus for Inter Milan star?
  • Arsenal leading race to sign Belgian midfielder

  • Andy Carroll is currently out through injury, leaving Maiga to take lead as the club's only recognised striker.

"We have reached our target laid down by the new rules in terms of wages,” said Daivd Gold. "The only possibility now is if players are sold. That's up to Sam, that's in his hands. If he releases wages, that will give us the opportunity to bring in replacements for those players.

"I think it's clear that we are still short of a striker."
