Xabi Alonso out for 3 months

23 August 2013 - 01:03

Real Madrid defensive midfielder Xabi Alonso has been sidelined for at least three months after breaking his foot in training ahead of Real Madrid's friendly against Qatari club Al-Sadd on thursday.

  • Dutch star has travelled to London for Chelsea medical
  • Chelsea to focus on signing Dutch attacker after Hato

  • There was reported interest from former club Liverpool as well as former manager Jose Mourinho's Chelsea, but it is understood that this has ended following this injury.

Alonso was close to returning to first team action after the surgery he has in June to cure his groin injury which ruled him out for all of Los Merengues' pre-season matches.

Alonso is set to miss the first El Classico of the season on the 26th October, as well as a World Cup qualifier against Finland in September.
