Everton manager rules out bid for James McCarthy

27 August 2013 - 11:54

James McCarthy's future at Wigan has been the subject of intense interest in the past few days, with Newcastle supposedly interested in the player. However, Everton are not one of the teams that will be making an approach after Toffees' manager Roberto Martinez confirmed no bid has been made.

  • Arsenal make surprise decision on Viktor Gyokeres
  • Arsenal to battle Napoli to sign Alexsandro Ribeiro?

  • With doubts over the long term future of Marouane Fellaini at Goodison Park, there had been talk of a move for Wigan midfielder James McCarthy to replace the Belgian this week.

However, Everton's manager Martinez has moved swiftly to deny reports of an imminent bid for the Republic of Ireland international, Mccarthy. The Spanish manager said: "There has been no bid made. I think it's quite easy to understand that James is a player I signed at a young age and I've got huge admiration for him, so it doesn't take anyone to create a little bit of a story. But there has been no bid."
