Everton offer for James McCarthy rejected

A £12m bid from Everton for Wigan midfielder James McCarthy has been rejected. The midfielder remains Everton's main priority should Marouane Fellaini complete a transfer deadline day move to another club.

  • Last week Wigan rejected talk of an offer for the midfielder, insisting that McCarthy remains an important member of the first team at the Latics.

Wigan confirmed an offer from Everton for McCarthy saying: "We rejected the bid because it's still not near the value we'd expect. If we have to sell James then we will have to bring someone in and that's not easy, I really hope he stays with us. Everyone seems to leave the business until the last minute."
