A £12m bid from Everton for Wigan midfielder James McCarthy has been rejected. The midfielder remains Everton's main priority should Marouane Fellaini complete a transfer deadline day move to another club.

  • Last week Wigan rejected talk of an offer for the midfielder, insisting that McCarthy remains an important member of the first team at the Latics.<br />

Wigan confirmed an offer from Everton for McCarthy saying: "We rejected the bid because it's still not near the value we'd expect. If we have to sell James then we will have to bring someone in and that's not easy, I really hope he stays with us. Everyone seems to leave the business until the last minute."
