Nicolas Spolli 'turned down' move to Tottenham Hotspur

12 September 2013 - 00:17

Catania defender Nicolas Spolli has revealed that he rejected a switch to Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur.

The Argentine centre-back was reportedly linked with a move to the North London club for a fee of £7m on transfer deadline day, but he had given prior confirmation to the Italian club's president Antonino Pulvirenti on his decision to stay at Sicily.

The 30-year-old told La Sicilia : "When the interest from Tottenham came in, the club didn't even need to ask me, because they knew what my intentions were.

"I had told the president that I wanted to remain in Catania as soon as last season came to a close, before there was any talk of transfers.

"I am happy in Catania, it's a wonderful city and when I have the time it's incredible to enjoy both the sea and Etna."
