Gus Poyet to take Sunderland job

07 October 2013 - 15:38

Former Brighton manager Gus Poyet will take control at Sunderland tomorrow evening. The Black Cats have been looking for a new manager since parting company with Paolo Di Canio two weeks ago.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Former Chelsea boss to replace Erik ten Hag at Man Utd?

  • Kevin Ball had asked to be considered for the vacant role, but it appears chairman and owner Ellis Short is looking for more managerial experience and has plumped for the Uruguayan instead.

Poyet has long been favourite to take over the job and current director of football Roberto Di Fanti is also a big fan of Poyet. It is understood that Poyet will be offered a three year contract to take charge at the Stadium of Light.
