Barcelona keeper Valdes drops Monaco move hint

Barcelona keeper Valdes drops Monaco move hint

14 October 2013 - 08:14

Barcelona's goalkeeper Victor Valdes has dropped the biggest hint yet that he will pursue a transfer away from the Nou Camp in the summer with Monaco his preferred destination.

  • Chelsea eyeing part-exchange deal to sign Osimhen
  • Chelsea & Arsenal handed blow in Bundesliga striker pursuit

  • The 31-year-old goalkeeper has so far yet to agree a contract with his current club and Valdes is believed to be looking for a new challenge in another country. The player has been on Barcelona's books since 1995 and has helped the Spanish side to six league titles and three Champions League victories during his time as number 1 at the Nou Camp.

Barcelona manager Gerardo Martino had hoped that he could persuade the Spaniard to pen a new deal at the club, but it appears Valdes has already decided to move elsewhere next summer.

Monaco's manager Claudio Ranieri is a huge fan of Valdes and chairman Dmitry Rybolovlev is of the opinion that a new goalkeeper is the final piece of the jigsaw for his vision for the Principality side.

Current first choice Danijel Subasic has been linked with a move away from Monaco next summer whilst Flavio Roma, the current second choice, is expected to retire in July.

Valdes' contract with Barcelona will expire on the 31st June 2014 and Monaco will be able to begin talks with the player regarding a transfer on January 1st.
