Germany international midfielder Lars Bender has signed a new contract with Bayer Leverkusen, putting pen to paper on a deal until 2019. The player had been linked with a host of other teams from across Europe but will now be staying with the Bundesliga giants.
Arsenal were amongst the teams all interested in the talented player but it appears that his long term future will remain with his current side.
The 24-year-old has been with Leverkusen since 2009 and has gone on to become an important member of the first team there.
"The negotiations over a new contract were a reaction to the offers we have received for Lars, and I am delighted that we have secured his services for the foreseeable future," said Bayer Leverkusen's sporting director Rudi Voeller after completing contract talks with the player.
