Chelsea and Man City still in battle for Blaise Matuidi signing

17 November 2013 - 05:39

Both Chelsea and Manchester City remain confident that a deal can be agreed to sign Paris St Germain's defensive midfielder Blaise Matuidi. The talented Frenchman has only been with PSG since 2011 but has yet to agree a deal on a new contract.

  • PSG have been busy trying to persuade Matuidi to sign a new deal, but the player's agent has been holding for a contract close to 140,000 Euros per week to stay at the Parc Des Princes.

Matuidi joined back in 2011 from Saint Etienne and has been an important member of PSG's squad since then, but with the recent new deal for fellow defensive midfielder Marco Veratti, the player is concerned that he is not going to be a long term part of the club's plans.

Both Manchester City and Chelsea will be able to open talks with Matuidi on January 1st, six months before the player's contract expires. Both Premier League sides are considering a massive signing on bonus for Matuidi to move to England, with Chelsea ready to pay Matuidi a massive 5 million Euro signing on fee.
