Athletic Bilbao midfielder Herrera pulls plug on talk of Man Utd deal

28 November 2013 - 08:00

Athletic Bilbao's star midfielder Ander Herrera has told reporters that he has no plans to make a move away from the Basque club in the near future, despite persistent rumours linking him with a transfer to Manchester United.

  • Mikel Arteta insists 27yo star won't be leaving Arsenal
  • Omari Hutchinson wants to continue at Ipswich Town

  • The Spanish whizzkid very nearly joined United in last summer's transfer window, but a deal was mooted at the last minute as David Moyes' side decided to pursue Marouane Fellaini from Everton instead.

Despite that transfer falling through, Herrera has still been linked with a transfer to Old Trafford. However the player has now told reporters that he is happy to stay just where he is and that Athletic Bilbao is the perfect team for him: "I appreciate very much that Man Utd made a very important offer for me and also that Athletic did not accept it.

"That means that Athletic value me above money and trust in their project more than a large offer. I'm where I wanted to be in this day, not someone who has played for six or seven clubs. I like to feel good where I am, take root and Athletic is the perfect place for me."
