  • The Burundian-born England youngster was linked with the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea in recent weeks, prompting the Midlands club's officials in making a swift attempt to secure the player's services by offering a new long-term contract.

The Baggies' sporting and technical director Richard Garlick confirmed the news on the club's official website.

"It was always our intention to reward Saido for the huge strides he has made over the past few months," Richard Garlick said.

"He's not the finished article and he has to remain patient, as we do with him. But he has done exceptionally well to get where he is and he now has to focus on what got him here – hard work and keeping his feet on the ground."

The 21-year-old striker joined the Baggies at the club's youth level in 2004.
