Tim Sherwood is set to land his first signing of his managerial career with Tottenham, as the club close in on a deal for Lyon striker Batefimbi Gomis in January.
The 44-year-old, who has been given the managerial post at Spurs on a one-and-half year deal, is understood to be keen on making a few recruits of his own in the New year, following the club's failure to make the most of their £110m spending spree in the summer under former boss Andre Villas-Boas.
According to The Metro, Gomis is considered as a top priority for the North London club, with England international Jermain Defoe rumoured to be heading for a MLS switch with Toronto FC.Â
Gomis has amassed 62 goals in 161 appearances for Lyon in all competitions.Â
