Lyon midfield star Clement Grenier has insisted that he had never asked for a transfer away from the French club in the winter transfer window.
The French playmaker, who signed a new deal with the club in the summer, was once again linked with a switch to high flying Arsenal, but has denied that he had requested an exit from the Stade de Gerland in January.
"I just responded to a fan who asked me if I would stay in Lyon for my career," Grenier said. "I just said, 'In football, everything goes very fast - if I say yes and I go this winter, you'll take me for a fool'.
"This response has been misinterpreted. A departure is not in my head for this transfer window and I have not asked to leave."
Grenier has been with Les Gones since 2002.
