  • The 25-year-old centre-half who joined the Argentine outfit last summer, has attracted interest from a number of clubs in recent weeks, with Premier League club Sunderland considered outright favourites to land the player's signature during the transfer window.

Estudiantes president Enrique Lombardi has confirmed that they expect the defender to make the move in the next few days.

"He wants to leave Estudiantes, and as he isn't a player that is considered as principle in the squad, we have accepted his departure," Lombardi said. "He wants to change team, and as there is a good offer that we have analysed, he will leave our club."

Vergini has made a solitary appearance for the Argentine national side.
