Estudiantes defender Santiago Vergini is reportedly closing in on a move to Sunderland, as per the club's president Enrique Lombardi.
The 25-year-old centre-half who joined the Argentine outfit last summer, has attracted interest from a number of clubs in recent weeks, with Premier League club Sunderland considered outright favourites to land the player's signature during the transfer window.<br />
Estudiantes president Enrique Lombardi has confirmed that they expect the defender to make the move in the next few days.<br />
"He wants to leave Estudiantes, and as he isn't a player that is considered as principle in the squad, we have accepted his departure," Lombardi said. "He wants to change team, and as there is a good offer that we have analysed, he will leave our club."<br />
Vergini has made a solitary appearance for the Argentine national side.
