Liverpool are understood to be plotting a loan move for AC Milan midfielder Nigel De Jong in the January transfer window.
The speculation comes about as Brazilian international Lucas Leiva was ruled out for two months with a knee injury, which he suffered during the club's 2-2 draw against Aston Villa in the Premier League last weekend.
According to the Daily Mail, the Reds manager Brendan Rodgers is considered to be short of options for the defensive midfield role and could make a loan move to bring former Manchester City star De Jong to the club during the winter transfer window.
De Jong looks likely to make a return to the Premier League in spite of being a regular for AC Milan, who have had a disastrous season in the Serie A.
