Premeir League outfit Fulham failed in their attempts to sign Argentine defender Marcos Rojo from Sporting Lisbon on the deadline day.

  • The 23-year-old was manager Rene Meulensteen's first choice for the centre-back role and after the bid failed, the club instead went for Everton’s John Heitinga.

Reports suggest that the Cottagers bid of five million pounds was considered too low by Sporting President Bruno Carvalho and was immediately rejected.

The Portuguese club are willing to let the defender leave but believe they could get a much better deal for him after this summer’s World Cup where he is likely to feature for his national side after impressing in recent friendlies.

Fulham are currently at the bottom of Premier League table on 19 points from 24 games.
