Shakhtar Donetsk striker Maicon Pereira de Oliveira has died in a traffic accident, according to the club's official website.

The 25-year-old Brazilian forward who has been with the Ukrainian giants since 2012, was on loan to fellow league club Illichivets Mariupol for the season.



The club released a statement showing their grievance over losing such a "wonderful person" in Maicon.



"He was a talented footballer, open and friendly guy. Maicon loved life and knew how to make it positive and bright. Tragic, untimely and absurd death took away a wonderful person from our ranks," the statement read.



No further details have been provided on the accident.
