Chelsea scouting Benfica striker Rodrigo

Chelsea are hoping to use their connections with Portuguese club Benfica to secure a deal to sign Spanish under-21 international forward Rodrigo. The former Real Madrid youth player joined Benfica in 2010 and has recently forced his way into Benfica's first team.

  • It is understood that Benfica recently sold the rights to the player's contract to a private company for around 30 million Euros and the 22-year-old is expected to move to a big European team at the end of this season.

    Chelsea are not happy with the recent performances of strike duo Fernando Torres and Samuel Eto'o and are hoping to replace the pair with the Spanish starlet Rodrigo.

    Rodrigo has scored 7 goals so far this season in the Primeira Liga.
