Randy Lerner to sell Aston Villa

American investor Randy Lerner has decided to put Aston Villa up for sale. Lerner purchased the club back eight years ago but has decided to sell the Premier League side.

Lerner has also put a block on all transfers and contract discussions ahead of an imminent sale. It is understood that Lerner is set to price Villa at around $240 million USD, almost double what he paid for the club in 2006.

Amongst the players who are sure to leave Villa now include Marc Albrighton, whose contract will expire in June; whilst Paul Lambert is also likely to be leaving the club as the manager is unlikely to remain in the new club's owners plans.

Lerner is hopeful that Villa will be sold prior to the beginning of the new season in August.
