  • The 21-year-old's initial contract was till June 2015 and Muniain has agreed to extend two years at the La Liga side resulting in an increase in his buy-out clause from £37.5 million to £45 million.

Manchester City were reportedly eyeing a big-money move for the Spanish footballer earlier this year but contract negotiations were stalled.

He has been dubbed "Spanish Messi" by the Spanish media due to his style of play and stature and plays for Athletic Bilbao mainly as a left winger.

With 35 league apperances for Bilbao, Muniain also has one international cap to his name. He was named "La Liga breakthrough player of the year" in the 2010-11 season.
