AC Milan midfielder Nigel de Jong has admitted that he felt proud when he heard that Manchester United were interested in signing him during the summer.
The former Manchester City star was believed to be among the prime targets for Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal, but a deal never materialized between both clubs for the transfer.
In spite of that, the Netherlands international has shown his pleasure at being associated with a transfer to the Mancunian giants.
"If many people like him respect me and recognise what I am doing, then I can only be proud," He said.
Milan are planning to offer a new deal to the talented midfielder.
