Philipp Wollscheid has completed a season long loan deal to join Stoke City. The Bayer Leverkusen defender arrives as Mark Hughes' first signing of the January transfer window.
The 25-year-old spent the first half of the season on loan with Mainz and now arrives at the Britannia after being told by his parent club, Bayer Leverkusen, that he would not be a part of the first team squad for the remaining Bundesliga campaign.
Manager Mark Hughes told reporters: "Philipp is a player we’ve been aware of and have been tracking for some time and he will add to the competition for places in the centre of our defence."
