Aston Villa have relieved Paul Lambert from his managerial duties after two-and-a-half-years in charge.

Regional newspapers had called for Lambert's sacking earlier in the day following the club's 2-0 defeat at the hands of Hull City in the Premier League.

Lambert had endured a spell of ten league games without a win, with the club having scored just two goals in the process.

Villa have confirmed via their official website that they have parted company with the 45-year-old.

"The club would also like to place on record its thanks to Paul and take this opportunity to wish him every success in the future." the statement read.
