Manchester United are understood to have made an opening bid for Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos.
The Spain international is believed to have told Real's hierarchy that he is keen to make a switch to the Premier League with the Red Devils.
United had earlier tried to sign Ramos in a straight swap deal for star keeper David de Gea.
However, it is now claimed that the Mancunian giants have opened up with a bid of just above £30m for the talented central defender.
Ramos joined Real Madrid from Sevilla in the summer of 2005.
