Aston Villa have reportedly dismissed Tim Sherwood from the managerial post following a dismal start to their league campaign.

  • Arsenal to swap Gabriel Jesus for Inter Milan star?
  • Arsenal leading race to sign Belgian midfielder

  • The Villains currently find themselves rockbottom of the league standings following their 2-1 home reverse against Swansea City on Saturday.

Kevin MacDonald is expected to temporarily take charge of the West Midlands side as the club's search for a new manager gets underway.

"The board has monitored the performances closely all season and believes the results on the pitch were simply not good enough and that a change is imperative, " a statement read on the club's official website.

"However, the club would like to place on record its sincere thanks to Tim for all his efforts during a difficult period last season and for the many positive contributions he has made to the entire football set-up during his time with the club. We wish him well in the future."

Real Sociedad boss David Moyes is thought to be an early candidate to take over the reigns at Villa Park.
