Arsenal are keeping a close eye on Borussia Monchengladbach star Granit Xhaka ahead of the winter transfer window.

The Swiss international is believed to have been watched by Gunners scout during his side's trip to Manchester City in the Champions League.

According to The Mail, the Gunners could come up with a formal approach for the talented playmaker, who has previously attracted interest from German champions Bayern Munich.

However, the 23-year-old is likely to stay put at Monchengladbach as he still has three-and-a-half years left on his existing deal.

Xhaka currently wears the captain's armband at the Bundesliga outfit.
