The Italy international is deemed surplus to requirements at the Nerazzurri, and has been tipped to seek a fresh challenge in the New Year.

According to Sky Italia, the 27-year-old has rebuffed a temporary move to Sampdoria as he has set his sights on a Premier League adventure with Liverpool.

It is added that the Reds are negotiating terms with the player, and a deal could well be announced in the coming week.
