The Argentina international had been strongly linked with a move to Atletico Madrid last month, but he decided to stay put at the Primeira Liga holders.

According to The Record, Benfica face a battle to keep hold of their star asset with the likes of Manchester United, Atletico Madrid, and Zenit St. Petersburg vying for his services.

The 27-year-old has amassed over 225 appearances for the Portuguese giants since his move from Boca Juniors in 2010.

Benfica currently rate Gaitan at around &pound35m.
