Burley new Scotland boss

Burley new Scotland boss

23 January 2008 - 00:22

George Burley has been made new Scotland manager after a rigorous interview selection process.

  • Mikel Arteta insists 27yo star won't be leaving Arsenal
  • Omari Hutchinson wants to continue at Ipswich Town

  • The 51-year-old Burley has succeeded Alex McLeish who quit in November to join Birmingham.

And SFA president George Peat said: "We've gone down the same route as we did with the appointments of Walter Smith and Alex McLeish.

"It's been difficult from the point of view there's been little to choose between the candidates we were discussing."

Former boss Craig Brown is in full support of the move.

" His track record is very sound, but what is particularly good about George is his man-management.

"He always gets the best out of players."

"Alex McLeish had a wonderful record, winning seven out of his 10 internationals, and Scotland are 14th in the world rankings.

"So he's got quite a bit to live up to and there is a good crop of players coming through."
